Miss Purl: We Don’t Play Small—We Expand

It’s time for expansion friends.

Starting September 1, Miss Purl’s brick-and-mortar space will become The Making Room—a vibrant hub for fiber arts classes, studio hours, community events, and maker residencies.

Why now?

Because the world is asking for more intention, more connection, and more joy. And so are you.

After years of listening, learning, and dreaming, it’s time to build something that truly reflects who we are as makers. This expansion is about creating a space that honors our creativity, our time, and our values.

A model doesn’t exist quite like this. I’m building the concept from the ground up, shaped by our stories, our needs, and our dreams.

You’ve told me:
- You’re tired of shopping just to shop.
- You feel overwhelmed by stash guilt.
- You crave connection, structure, and creative expression that fits your life.

So I’m creating something new. A space where learning is intentional, materials are purposeful, and creativity feels like a gift and not competition.

What does this mean for you?

I’m doubling down on my commitment to help you slow down, connect, and craft with intention. The Making Room is designed to be a nurturing space where your creativity can thrive and be aligned with your values and your pace. Miss Purl is expanding beyond the traditional yarn store model to focus on intentional making, curated materials, and community-centered experiences. Our shelves will feature curated kits, yarn, and tools that support our classes, events, and seasonal programs.

Here’s what you have to look forward to:

  • More ways to engage—from weekly classes and monthly creative workshops to seasonal events, pop-ups and an online hub, you’ll have multiple ways to stay inspired and involved.

  • A more focused shopping experience—you won’t be browsing shelves like a traditional yarn store. Instead, you’ll find thoughtfully curated kits and tools that align with Miss Purl’s seasonal classes, events, programs, and featured business pop-ups.

  • Online shopping with local pickup—you can shop yarn and supplies online and conveniently pick them up in-store.

A note on timing

We’ll wrap up our current retail format at the end of the Chicago Yarn Crawl on August 3, 2025. After a short break (August 4–22), we’ll return with a series of open houses to welcome you into this new chapter that will launch September 1, just in time for Miss Purl’s Fourth Anniversary!

Here’s a peek at what’s coming with Miss Purl’s expansion:

  • Weekly classes — available through membership or à la carte

  • Open studio hours — to practice, play, and connect

  • Monthly workshops — that support your journey rather than overwhelm it

  • Pop-up events — in neighborhoods near you

  • On-site teaching — for businesses, organizations, and community partners

  • An online community hub — where you can learn, share, and stay inspired—wherever you are

  • Monthly community activations — open to the public to explore fiber arts and creativity

  • Artisan residencies – Build relationships with makers who value story, process, purpose, and you

Got questions? We’ve got you.

Right now, you’ll find a FAQ page at misspurlchicago.com/themakingroom with answers to the most common questions. But that’s just the beginning.

This blog, The Thread, is a living space for updates, announcements, and behind-the-scenes glimpses as we shape this new chapter together.

We want you to be part of this expansion, just like you were when we first built out the physical space. So we’ll keep you in the loop every step of the way—loop by loop, row by row. Because this journey is being hand-stitched with care, and you’re woven right into it.

You are creative and loved. Peace.
